Twist Of Fate is a fundraiser for Arterial Tortuosity syndrome.

About me: I'm Joseph Wills, 13 year old ATS, hypermobility, and chronic fatigue "victim." I'm the only known person with ATS in the UK. Also a long time sufferer of being a son to my crazy parents.

ATS (Arterial toruosity syndrome) is a rare connective tissue disorder that causes elongation and tortuosity of the arteries. ATS brings a high risk of aneurysm formation, dissection and stenosis of the pulmonary arteries. Many sufferers of ATS also have hypermobility syndrome, which causes problems with joints and muscles, and chronic fatigue, which leads to tiredness even with the most minor things.

Why are we fundraising?

For kids with ATS, life can be very hard. Constant trips to various doctors and life threatening surgeries are common, as well hypermobility and fatigue making it hard to run and play with their friends. It's tough to live a normal life for many people with ATS, but we might be able to make a difference.

Since we set up the ATS Facebook page in 2010 we've found many other kids with ATS, when we thought that we never would. It's been amazing (psuedo) meeting everyone and seeing that there are others out there like me. Recently, we've managed to put plans in place for a study on ATS, so that we can find out more about the condition. ATS can't be "cured," but it's possible that we can make the suffererers of ATS' lives better.

Of course, the study is going to need funding, which is where we come in. We have one foundation that is interested in funding the project, but we need more than this if we really want to make a difference. As well as funding this, we need to get all of the kids with ATS patients together, so that we can be tested and studied. However, our families are split across the world. Most of them are scattered across the USA, I'm in the UK, and one family is in Germany. It's going to be really expensive to get all of the patients in one place, but really important too. These are the reasons I am writing this.
